CityBeat Baltimore wants to make it easy for you to connect to serving opportunities in our city. We want you to feel comfortable and confident, knowing where you are going, what you will be doing, and just how important your role to play is in reaching those who are in need.

3.) Come out at the specified date and time of the event. We will likely have a brief orientation right before we begin serving to give you a rundown of the day and to let you know what to expect.

4.) Consider coming back and being a regular volunteer. We can’t express enough how grateful we are for amazing volunteers who help make all of our outreaches run!

FAQ's

What should I wear & bring to volunteer?

The first step is to check the weather forecast and choose clothing that you will feel comfortable in! We don’t often cancel our outreach programs and many of them are outdoors. We encourage all volunteers to wear flat, closed-toed shoes. A hat or hairnet is required for volunteers handling food. Hats may be brought from home, and hairnets will be provided. Disposable gloves are required for volunteers handling food and trash clean up – these will be provided by CityBeat. In the summer, we encourage all volunteers to bring water bottles, sunscreen and a hat. Summer days can get hot in Baltimore and we want to make sure all of our volunteers are well hydrated!

Can I take pictures during outreaches?

This is ok for most of our outreaches, but it is prohibited during Starry Night. We encourage our volunteers to take pictures and post on social media about your volunteering experience because you may inspire a friend to do the same. However, we do ask that you be sensitive to those that we are serving and not post pictures of people without their permission. We do not want to exploit people’s struggles by sharing images of them in vulnerable moments. However, we do know that many people are ok with their photos being taken, and if they’re ok with it then we’re ok with it. When in doubt, just ask! And if you do take some good pictures, make sure to tag us at @citybeatdreamcenter on Instagram and send them our way at [email protected]!

Can children volunteer?

Outside of Starry Night outreaches (which requires volunteers to be over 18), all of our outreaches are available for children of all ages! We ask that all volunteers under 16 be chaperoned by an adult, and we will need a waiver signed by a parent/guardian for any volunteers under 18. We are always excited to have volunteers of all ages come and learn about how to serve others in real and tangible ways!

Can I complete service hours by volunteering through CityBeat?

Of course! Just send an email to [email protected] and we will make sure that one of our outreach leaders signs off on your service hours.

Is there parking at the outreach events?

There is free parking at all of our outreach events. If an event is meeting at CityBeat Dream Center, there is plenty of street parking on Smallwood Street and Christian Street. If an event is meeting at Eastern Assembly of God, there is a large parking lot with ample parking.
